Zombies, by The Cranberries
Nick was showing playing this song in the studio the other day.
At first, i thought, hey, great song. Wonder why it's so familiar.
Like something was tugging on my mind.
Like how music brings you back in time
To another place.
Then i realised, that's the song i heard in the go-go bar in pattaya, thailand.
When i watched girls do things i never want to witness again in my life.
Degrading, the indignity of it
can't even begin to describe how intense that night was.
The tiredness, the excess of booze (in front of me, not that i drank much then)
The horror on how women are treated, bought, dressed up, stripped down, sold
For the perversion of men's pleasure.
Their faces, young, already haunted.
The masquerade they put on, to laugh, to get work done for the night.
For innocence stripped off
For lifetime of bondage put on.
Why
Do such horrors exist
Then the lives of people, just like me, living only a few hours away from me,
can be so starkly different?
It could have easily have been me instead of them
I'm a woman too.
It scares the shit out of me.
The whole time i was there
There was this sense of lingering unease
I've never felt to violated in my life.
Gosh.
This song is so intense.
